Islands

Although close to Cornwall, island life is a simpler, kinder and more peaceful way of life. There is a certain quality of life here, long lost to many other parts of the UK.

There are five inhabited islands – St Mary’s (the largest), St Agnes, Bryher, Tresco and St Martin’s - and countless uninhabited islands to explore. Not only are the entire Isles of Scilly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but they are also home and workplace for just over 2,200 people.

All our islands offer a feast of unique events and experiences. Each island is distinct, with its own mix of exotic and often rare plants and wildlife. Scilly also boasts an internationally important ancient history and archaeology, sweeping sea views, cairns and castle ruins, and rugged undeveloped coasts.  Out at sea, there are enough shipwrecks, and much more, to satisfy any scuba diver.

The abundance of sea air, clean seas and a wonderfully mild climate also provide the additional secret ingredients to local Scillonian fare. A visit to any of the islands wouldn’t be complete without sampling everything from the freshest lobster and tender island-reared beef to wonderful home-grown vegetables and melt-in-the mouth ice-creams. Explore our local delicacies at cafes, restaurants and general stores, plus many farm stalls on roadsides and pathways.

So come; submerge yourself in our culture, our food, and our history and heritage. Unwind in a natural playground on land and sea, or get your adrenaline pumping with a wide range of new experiences.
