3. Tresco - the Isles of Scilly

   

   This sub-tropical gem is the second-largest of the Islands, and the only one to be privately owned. Tresco has a little bit of everything, from dramatic rocky outcrops and romantic castles to secluded sandy beaches and, of course, the famous Abbey Gardens, which were established by Augustus Smith in the 1830s. This horticultural paradise now showcases 20,000 exotic species, many of which cannot be grown anywhere else in Britain.

    Travelling by air to the Isles of Scilly is a brilliant way to arrive on these islands to treasure.There are many scheduled flights from Exeter and Newquay with Skybus and the journey takes just 15 minutes from Lands End airport. Or travel by ship - The Scillonian -- newly refitted 2013 - for a leisurely and relaxed cruise to the islands...set sail from Penzance harbour and enjoy a memorable 2 hour and 40 minute trip over to St Marys. Enjoy wildlife spotting and the sea breeze on your face on the top deck as you watch the unique coast of Cornwall slip by. You can also travel to the islands by yacht or motor boat.
