Exciting Events for 2010

The Isles of Scilly may be small, but they pack a lot in. There are as many types of holidays as there are holiday-makers. Come for sea safaris, restful strolls, adventure and excitement, or for peace and quiet.

Join us for Walk Scilly (March/April) a seven-day walking festival, featuring a series of themed guided walks taking place across the Islands. A variety of local experts lead an array of walks, on topics such as archaeology and photography, flora and fauna, castles and cliffs, beaches and birds, bats and boats. May sees the Islands' biggest annual event - the World Gig Championships on the first Bank Holiday weekend - a four-day extravaganza that sees more than 1,000 gig rowers from all over the globe powering long wooden boats across the shimmering seas. Summer then brings a wealth of food festivals, art exhibitions and performing arts productions.

Autumn/Winter
The New Year celebration on St Mary's extends between Christmas and New Year, with the final party occurring just before the start of another busy year.

Despite our remote setting, Scilly is a destination that hums with activity all year round. You can get the local insight from the BBC2 documentary series An Island Parish. The Isles of Scilly have also featured in a range of TV programmes including BBC2's Top Gear, ITV1's Martin Clune's Islands of Britain, BBC2's Gimme A Break, BBC2's Coast

Out of Season:

At this time of year, the elements reassert themselves with awesome majesty. Spray and spindrift fly high above the granite headlands driven by gales, rare birds find shelter among the hardy, evergreen hedges, small flowers and greenery burst through the sleeping soil.

However, there are still many days of cloudless skies and brilliant sunshine to enjoy. With plenty of accommodation still available, provisions easily sourced, and Mother Nature's playground as your source of entertainment, the Isles of Scilly out of season are a truly unique experience.
