The Guard House

At The Guard House we have retained the services of a leading interior designer to create an exclusive and comfortable base to explore the islands.
The Guard House is located within the Garrison walls on St Mary’s, the largest of the Isles of Scilly. A perfect base for exploring the unrivalled natural beauty of the islands.

The Isles of Scilly provide an ideal holiday setting, free from the bustle of modern life. Unspoilt quiet beaches, tropical plants, magnificent views, historic buildings and a slower pace of life captivate all visitors who return year after year.

The Guard House nestles against the Elizabethan Garrison walls and has a private garden terrace, formerly a cannon battery, with panoramic views of the harbour and islands of Samson, Bryher, Tresco and St Martins. Garden furniture, and barbecue are provided.

The Guard House was constructed in the early 17th century and as the name suggests, was originally constructed adjacent to the main gated entrance to the fortified garrison area.

The interior of the cottage has been carefully refurbished to retain the traditional character of the property whilst providing a beautifully furnished and equipped base for an enjoyable holiday.

The slate flagged porch leads to the open plan kitchen, dining area and sitting room which occupies the entire ground floor of the Guard House. Beautifully furnished with oak floor, subtle lighting, large open fire place (logs are supplied free of charge) & high quality soft furnishings. Flat screen TV with video, DVD player and hi-fi. An ample supply of DVDs, board games and books are supplied.

The traditional painted kitchen has been comprehensively equipped with dishwasher, combined washing machine and tumble dryer, fridge freezer, integrated hob, oven and all conceivable cookware, crockery, glassware, cook books etc.

An open staircase leads to the bedrooms on the first floor. There are two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with two singles. Both rooms are partially timber panelled and enjoy panoramic views of the sea and neighbouring islands.

The painted timber panelled bathroom is located on the first floor, has traditional sanitary ware, bath with power shower over, wash basin and w.c. The bathroom has a heated towel rail and recessed lighting.

The Guard House has electric heating and an ample supply of towels and linen are provided. All electricity and heating including logs are included in the tariff. There are no hidden extras.
