Walk Scilly 2014

Time to get your boots on! Walk Scilly 2014 12-18th April 2014

Walk Scilly is now in its 8th year and set to start the season on the islands yet again with 22 wonderful walks (and counting) covering all the islands. Find full details of all the walks and information in the Walk Scilly 2014 Programme. Please see Booking Information 2014 for a step by step guide on how to book your tickets using the 2014 Booking Form.

There’s no better way to explore the Isles of Scilly than on foot. Like nowhere else in England, the entire archipelago is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, right down to the last grain of sand. Walk Scilly 2014 offers walkers the opportunity to discover the rich heritage of the five inhabited islands, guided by local experts.

April is a wonderful time to visit, and provides ideal conditions for the outdoors, with Scilly’s early Spring in full bloom. You’ll be able to enjoy the UK’s mildest climate, while walking amongst budding hedgerows and abundant birds and wildlife.

The Walks

The seven day festival offers a series of themed walks across the islands’ 60 miles of pathways. Expert guides, with an intimate knowledge of the islands and the British countryside, will lead the walks. You’ll also be able to hop between the islands, without the worry of having to plan your boat trips and walking routes. Now, that’s a holiday!

In addition to its sandy white beaches, Scilly has the greatest concentration of prehistoric burial sites in the UK and one of the highest numbers of historic shipwrecks in Europe. The islands are also a mecca for rare migrant bird species.

The themes of the walks will include the islands’ wildlife, archaeology, gardens, castles, boats and even a trail run for the more energetic!

Every year we try to keep the old favourites and add some new walks too – something for everyone and the very best of expert guides to really bring the treasures and hidden gems of each island to life. All the boatmen are kindly standing by to bring their expertise to bear on the programme – walk start and end times tying in neatly with tides and boat movements.

There’s more; Isles of Scilly Travel are offering a discount to those booking travel for Walk Scilly (for more information please see Booking Information 2014). And anyone purchasing a Walk Scilly ticket will receive discount vouchers valid at St Mary's Bike Hire and St Mary's Riding Centre. It’s Walk Scilly time and active Scilly time!

There's music too! The Isles of Scilly Folk Club have once again organised their annual Folk Festival on St. Mary’s to coincide with the walks so on the nights from 17-20 April there’s the very best in local and Westcountry folk music to end the day. Perfect. So come and get your feet pacing out the miles, tapping out the folkie beat and kicking off the season on Scilly.
